Justin Cary, Sixpence None the Richer Bassist, Dead at 50

Justin Cary, longtime bassist for Sixpence None the Richer, has died at the age of 50.

Cary passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2026, following a serious stroke he suffered about a week earlier. He had been hospitalized at Albany Medical Center in New York, where he underwent two surgeries and remained in intensive care before his death. Reports say his wife, Linda, was by his side when he passed.

Cary joined Sixpence None the Richer in 1997 and became part of the band’s best-known era, including their breakthrough success with “Kiss Me.” Lead singer Leigh Nash paid tribute to him, remembering him as a beloved bandmate and asking fans to keep Linda close in their hearts.

He is remembered for his musicianship, humor, and decades of work as a bassist with Sixpence None the Richer and other artists.

Rest in peace, Justin Cary.
